Domino Harvey was the daughter of actor, Lawrence Harvey, a poor little rich girl who shunned the Beverly Hills 90210 set and became a bounty hunter. That’s the basic truth that director, Tony Scott’s film peddles, a slick, gritty movie full of guns and shoot-outs, everything that studio executives believe audiences want. Unfortunately, what people get is Keira Knightley as Domino, toting a shotgun, trying to act tough and Mickey Rourke doing much the same as they try to get their hands on 10 million dollars. If the picture had a good script, then it might have been able to pull it off, but the story falls to pieces half way through and the movie loses direction.
Rourke is convincing enough as Ed, the bounty-hunting mentor, but his performance isn’t enough to carry the film. Knightley is not believable enough and even the likes of Christopher Walken, Delroy Lindo and Jacqueline Bisset can’t breathe enough life into it. The picture may have faired better if it had been more biographic than Hollywood truth, but that doesn’t necessarily put bums on seats. Tony Scott is capable of much better.
