For the life of me, I can’t remember why I asked to review this band. Five seconds after hitting play, I remembered. The fuzz-laden tones and Mr James Broad’s distinct vocals remind me. I recollect getting a free Kerrang CD (please don’t judge, I was young and foolish and let off with a warning) with Silver Sun track ‘I’ll See You Around’. It was cracking little song; the band sounded fresh and different.
You’ll be glad to hear, the band haven’t really changed a great deal. Super saturated guitar noise, drums, guitars and vocals are literally mixed into one another. So, this should all be good? Well, no….
Five years ago this would have sounded fresh, but unfortunately new single ‘Immediate’ doesn’t have the poppy hook that made ‘I’ll See You Around’ such a little belter. It would appear that band have been locked in a studio somewhere for half a decade while the world has passed them by.
I must admit to preferring the b-side ‘Dance with Me’ compared with ‘Immediate’ and that’s saying a lot, especially seeing as it sounds like something McFly came up with in their break-time at school.
Sounds like Silver Sun’s day has set (terrible pun, but I couldn’t resist.). If this is anything to go by, their future lies with Aqua in the Woolworths bargain bin…
