Atomic Kitten: Greatest Hits - Live At Wembley Arena
By Mojo
Monday, 19 April 2004
When Atomic Kitten announced their temporary departure from the world of pop earlier this year, the nation (a) cried or (b) breathed a sigh of relief – press your keypads now.

To those that thought nothing of three well-toned girls pushing up their cleavages into tight outfits, perhaps you’re hoping they’ve gone off to clear their furballs, yet my assumptions are that they are happily digesting their phenomenal success.

A fan or not, since the Spice Girls there hasn’t really been a long serving girl band in Britain.  Not however until the Kittens had a change of image, deposited Kerry in the jungle and stormed Wembley.  This DVD/VHS is the obligatory “greatest hits” chronicle that relives their final sell-out concert at Wembley before their time out.  For AK fans it’s worthy of a peek and especially good for those that might have been stuck at the back of the arena on the night without their binoculars.

Featuring an impressive track-listing of 20 hits covered on the night (some literally covers of course), it’s worthy package in terms of value for money.  With five changes of barely there costumes, close-up shots of each Kitten writhing with their backing dancers and up-beat, disco pop moments, there's bound to be a queue of people wanting to get their paws on this - sordid reasons included.

The concert starts of with some slow and sultry numbers before they turn up the heat and go hell for leather midway with 'Right Now' and the grand finale 'Ladies Night'.  A lot of the material is taken from the latter album and is quite addictive.  The girls exude energy and enthusiasm and even as they perform the quite ironic track 'The Last Goodbye' with feeling and enjoyment, they insist it really isn’t just yet.  Of course not (!)

Aside from the concert, the DVD is also crammed with 16 videos of various tracks – again all their 'greatest hits'.  The first four are so bizarre as they feature Kerry Katona and the other two all looking about 12 years old with B*witched style barnets - a real trip down memory lane, but a right laugh too.  I was quite impressed with the DVD overall and know it will delight real fans worldwide.  A lot of time and energy went into the concert and you can’t really fault it, their live performances were fantastic.
