It’s good to be back but how crap is it that a week’s gone by since my return?! Thank you to Matthew and Simon (who popped his editorial cherry) for filling in – you both did a fine job. I’m not sure if I want to begin by moaning about something or gloating about my holiday, which was fantastic – Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Innsbruck, Amsterdam…and more, and apart from a thunderstorm briefly in Switzerland, the weather was gorgeous.
God, it was so hot in Italy that I was having ice-creams in the morning, and get this, after buying a huge cone stuffed with three massive scoops at the top of a hill where this massive church was (er, I forget the name of this place), I raced down to the bottom where our coach was (which took about 90 seconds) with chocolate icecream dripping on my hand, down my wrist and promptly landing on my white trousers. Yeah, trust me to wear white (!)
But hey, no regrets. Not even the shopping. And I was in Rome for the world cup final, but chickened out early to get back to the hotel because I wouldn’t have been able to get a cab for hours after the celebrations kicked off. So, the holiday was good but something went wrong of course – namely I lost a few things: my sunglasses, my toothbrush (??) and my spectacles! I know I was planning to get new ones but not for a few more months and I lost everything in Italy, strangely enough. Picture the scene, me squinting like an old woman and scrambling for my contact lenses.
Those concerned will be pleased to learn I now have not one but two pairs of specs, thanks to a fantastic place which got them done in three days and they are sexy too – oh yes! Actually they should be for how much they cost.
Well, I apologise for this hurried editorial. It’s always tough adjusting back to normal life after a break but I promise I will get my arse into gear. I’d much rather be on a gondola again though…
