Following their MASSIVE NME tour, Klaxons up the fear factor with the release of third banger, ‘Magick’. Distinctly darker than previous two stormers ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ and ‘Atlantis to Interzone’, the menacing cut-up lyrics and Jamie Reynolds’ addictive, driving bassline grip your third eye, pulling you into an exhilarating, goose-pimping fear ride.
It’s dark, like Aphex Twin’s ‘Come to Daddy’ or ‘The Wondrous Boat Ride’ from the original Willy Wonka film, where wide-eyed Wonka subjects his little chocolate fiends to an intensely frightening yet thrilling, speeding psychedelic boat trip. Intense.
‘Hall of Records’ is yet another Klaxons track sure to make you want to move like an idiot, abandoning all concern for shame. A perfect pop song.
The excellent Simian Mobile Disco remix of ‘Magick’ slows things down but ups the muffled, pulsating warp level against shrieking vocals. It teeters at the crucial point just long enough to leave you straining for the headrush which, when it falls, is joyous.
The equation is simple: mind + body x Klaxons= MDMAzing.
