Tri-national Dorp, comprising South Africa’s Piet Bez on vocals and Kevin Floyd on guitar, French DJ Fred KU and London Town’s very own Rob Driver on drums, are signed to Caned and Able. Quelle surprise, as KU might well proclaim. This is music made by people who sound mashed yet surprisingly proficient at the same time.
A protest against London’s omnipresent 24-hour-party status, Dorp paint it as place “where you either keep up the pace or you get consumed”. Over the course of four minutes and thirteen seconds, Piet and his merry men manage to ensure their heads remain above water. Just.
Produced by Dan Swift who’s previously worked with the likes of Snow Patrol and Aqualung, ‘London Out There’ hits harder than the output of those two musical yellow bellies. Dorp knock you out. Before their pulsating techno-infused rock revives you like a pulmonary resuscitator. (3¾/5) |
