Arctic Monkeys: Brianstorm (Domino)
By Matthew Hirtes
Monday, 16 April 2007

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Following the success of first album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, the fastest-selling debut in UK chart history no less, Alex Turner and co were tipped to rest on their laurels. Ensconced in their Primrose Hill penthouses.

And yet the freshly-minted Sheffield quartet refuse to follow rock and roll cliché. So, they remain in their home town. Whilst retaining their trademark sound, a frenzied guitar-led attack on your defences.

For now, the delights of NW1 can wait. The Monkeys are up for more mayhem. And if this single is in any way indicative of the forthcoming Favourite Worst Nightmare, another entry in the record books beckons: as the band behind the fastest-selling sophomore album in UK chart history.
