Low vs Diamond have got it made. Following The Killers’ career path of concentrating on breaking the UK before the US, the Los Angeles quintet are “a So-Cal band all the Brit kids love”. You’ll barely inhale in surprise then when you learn that Low vs Diamond are signed to Flowers and co’s original label and discover that both groups share a manager.
Comprising Lucas Paul Field on vocals and guitar, power drummer Howie Josef Diamond, James Thaddeus Moore IV on keyboards, guitarist Anthony Joseph Polcino, and Jon "TD" Pancoast on bass, Low vs Diamond used to work the circuit as Colored Shadows. And before that, 1984. The new name came about after original guitarist/vocalist Ben Pollack left CS, with the Low referring to the nickname of his girlfriend who soon cultivated a Tom-and-Jerry-style love-to-hate-you relationship with drummer Diamond.
With a soaring chorus and an up-and-at-’em, yet doom-laden, sound, ‘Heart Attack’ suggests Low vs Diamond’s days playing pubs and clubs are numbered. Then they’ll have another thing in common with The Killers, and that’s an upwards trajectory. Low vs Diamond are stadia-bound alright.
