Mr Hudson & The Library: Ask The DJ (Mercury)
By Matthew Hirtes
Monday, 23 April 2007

‘Ask The DJ’ is one of the standout tracks on Mr Hudson & The Library’s recently-released A Tale of Two Cities. The band play it as the encore of choice when gigging. It was always going to be a single.

During Mr Hudson & The Library’s tour of libraries, ‘Ask The DJ’ was the track that got the crowd moving. Listening to it, you can see why Time Out labelled the group as “the next big thing”. And why Observer Music Monthly described Mr Hudson & The Library’s sound as “gorgeous”.

When grime artists play with indie groups, they call it grindie. Seeing as this CD features a remix with Sway, maybe a new genre has been born. But as Mr Hudson & The Library already combine elements of jazz, pop, and rap, naming this latest type of music is going to be more of a challenge. Can we not just settle on good?
