In November 2006, Paris label Ed Banger released its first album in its three-year history. That album was DJ Mehdi’s Lucky Boy. Six months down the line comes the remixed version.
Ed Banger were inspired to do so following the riotous reception afforded their main man at the record company’s 4th birthday celebrations in March. And so we have remixes and edits from the likes of Daft Punk Thomas Bangalter who had been so inactive on this front recently many were forgiven to thinking he’d metamorphosed into a hibernating bear. Kenny Dope, the NYC producer who’s remixed Madonna, Donna Summer, and Janet Jackson, also lends a hand.
What’s more, the new album finds the lady in DJ Mehdi’s life, Fafi, singing on ‘Lucky Girl’. So irresistible are her vocals, it’s as if they embrace you. A vocalist has never sounded so close on record.
There’s some fresh new cuts alongside a reworked track listing. The original got the critics worked up enough to pen the most glowing testimonials. Whilst offering a guiding light to a whole new generation of clubbers.
Lucky Boy At Night looks like earning DJ Mehdi similar kudos. If not more. The best, you see, just got better.
