10 years after ‘Sexy Boy’, Air return with a single that’s every bit as fresh as that breakthrough. The second single to be taken from fourth album Pocket Symphony, it’d be considered a return to form if Air weren’t so annoyingly consistent. By all accounts, it’s the most uptempo track on their latest long-player.
It’s also a song seemingly constructed of fine china, liable to disintengrate if examined too closely. And yet the fragility of the vocals combines perfectly with the delicate, though, layered instrumentation. It’s got producer’s Nigel Godrich’s fingers all over it.
Critics may well sneer they’re a dinner-party band. Best enjoyed as background noise to cover those inevitable lulls in conversation. The truth of the matter, though, is that the sound of Nicholas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel is more insistent than that, offering more than just hot Air.
