The Mules: Polly O (Kartel)
By Matthew Hirtes
Monday, 11 June 2007

Meet The Mules. Their drummer Ed Seed is also their vocalist. He’s joined by Duncan Brown on guitar, bassist James Lesslie, Tim Burke, an apprentice conductor at The Royal Opera House on  piano and synthesizer, and the jazz-trained fiddler Nico Beedle.

They’ve patented the electrobilly sound – a new genre of music which wouldn’t sound out of place at a Bar Mitzvah, a ye olde worlde tavern, nor student union bar. Alan McGee described them as “fucking weird”. And they count Harvey Keitel as a fan.

‘Polly O’ was originally released as a single two years ago and why it sank without trace remains a mystery. For, on this track, The Mules kick ass. Ba-dum tish.
