Those going to Carnival this year can expect to hear the original of ‘Soundbwoy’, released earlier this month, blasting out of speakers here, there, and everywhere. Played by DJs worth their Ackee and Saltfish. And the new versions would go down a storm down Notting Hill way this August too.
After ‘Soundbwoy’ achieved repeat-play status on Channel U and nationwide radio stations, A-Tola revealed that the single had received “a great response, to the point people actually tell me they’re going to steal the beat if I don’t get them on the remix.” Skinnyman, Dready, J2K, and Rukus, who appear on the two remixes, won’t be pilfering any of A-Tola’s material then.
Acknowledging the gathering of this who’s who of British hip-hop, the London lyricist expressed boyish enthusiasm : “I’m so glad that I have been able to work with these MCs, they are the best that the UK have to offer at the moment as far as I’m concerned, so to have them on my first track is just crazy.”
Sampling ‘Prophecy’ by reggae star Fabian, A-Tola has found a rootsy backdrop perfect for his Rudeboy swagger. Taken from ’Da Mona Lisa’, his debut album coming out later this year, this promises to be the sound of summer. Bwoy!
