Do not adjust your sets; this is indeed a new editorial. Yes, unfortunately while we’ve been busy updating the site with all the latest releases, this column’s been neglected somewhat.
I’m afraid that those of you eagerly awaiting news from Affie will have to wait just a little bit longer. What with her jet-set lifestyle, you see, she’s just a bit too busy to keep us plebs updated… Well, Ok, the truth is she’s addicted to Facebook instead, but I’m sure she’ll be back soon, if only to plead for more friends! So, any way, it falls on me to fill this little void…
What a weekend it’s been for all of us. Did anyone go to Glastonbury? I just watched some of it on the telly. Maybe I’m getting old, but I prefer being nice and comfy at home, with proper food, beds and a toilet, rather than knee-deep in mud straining to see/hear the tiny figures on a stage that seems several miles away. And, in fact, I’m glad the weekend brought the traditional rain too, because it meant I didn’t have to put up with the noisy cricketers on the field outside my window! Those of you who did go will no doubt insist that I’m the one missing out, but I’m not bothered.
So what have I been up to instead? Well, the answer actually is not too much. With university already having just broken up, and no exams for me, I’m into my summer ‘holidays’, so plenty of time for a bit of rest and relaxation on my hands. Actually, I’ve been entertaining two old friends visiting town – so spending far too much time in pubs. That and our end of year dinner – a Middle Eastern-themed banquet in the college hall, followed by belly dancing and then a bunch of drunken reprobates (i.e. us) descending on a nearby club. That’s where the photo was taken, by the way, sometime in the early hours. I’m not sure if the funny angle was intended artistry or mere drunkenness.
Sadly, the summer’s not all fun and games. After a week off to relax, I need to get back to that thesis again soon. I aim to have about 80,000 words by the end of the summer – which, for the uninitiated, is equivalent to about 300 of our album reviews… I also have the small matter of a job interview on Monday morning, probably over by the time you read this, but wish me luck. It’s only for maternity cover, but it’ll keep me off the streets for another year anyway.
Right, that’s all from me this week. Those of you waiting to hear from Affie, which probably sounds even more attractive after my blabberings, can rest assured – normal service should be resumed shortly
