The Dodgems: You’re Not What You Used To Be (No Carbon)
By Matthew Hirtes
Monday, 23 July 2007

You win some; you lose some. Sheffield’s loud-and-proud The Dodgems landed a contract with Alan McGee’s latest venture but recently had to bring in a new bassist, Chris Murray. As their previous bass player left to join The Arctic Monkeys.

Murray joins brothers Phil (guitar/vocals) and Tom (organ/piano) Goodwin, along with drummer Eric Miller. What The Dodgems offer is less a sound than an all-out assault on your senses, so prepare for bleeding ears and watering eyes. This is rock and roll you’d imagine Fred and Barney getting down to on a boy’s night out.

Still in the early stages of their career, the band are currently supporting bands that aren’t even household names in their own household. It will shock you not a jot then to hear that ‘You’re Not What You Used To Be’ is the quartet’s debut single. They may be absolute beginners, but so what? The Dodgems bring all the fun of the fair and more, more, more.
