Last year, Liam Fray formed part of Manchester’s Council Pop scene – a movement celebrating working-classic northern music, the type Oasis used to make before they lost touch with their roots. Less than 12 months later, he’s fronting The Courteneers – a band who couldn’t have produced more of a buzz than if they’d opened their set chain-sawing an active hive. Sonically, though, The Courteeneers owe more to The Las than the Gallaghers on this, their debut single. Yet whatever their musical heritage, Fray and co look like becoming the next big thing.
