The Go! Team: Proof of Youth (Memphis Industries)
By Matthew Hirtes
Monday, 10 September 2007

A recent study further exposed the link between food and drink additives and hyperactivity. Listening to The Go! Team’s latest manic offering, their second album, one who be forgiven for thinking the Brighton massive have been necking E-numbers again. For over the course of 10 tracks they playfully veer from hip hop to pop to rock and back to hip-hop.

Not that the Team embark unaccompanied on this wacky race of a release. Electronica-leaning pop tart Solex came over from Amsterdam to record in the band’s Brighton bolthole whilst band leader Ian Parton hooked up with Marina Ribatski from Brazil nuts Bonde Do Role in London. Meanwhile, Public Enemy’s Chuck D recorded his vocals for album closer ‘Flashlight Fight’ at his home studio in Brooklyn.

With or without their guests, though, The Go! Team prove themselves to be young at heart. And long may they continue to devour their six-packs of Cheesy Wotsits. Accompanied by the more-than-occasional swig from a vat of Tizer.
