If you’re a dedicated clubber, tracks off this album probably won’t be entirely new to you. As they were recorded live, in the sense of the German remixer/producer/DJ spinning them, in booths in Tokyo, Manchester, Berlin, Porto, Nagoya, London, Nijmegan, Madrid, Glasgow, Istanbul, Rome, Chicago, Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Montreal, and Amsterdam. Not that they’ll be as familiar as to Schwarz himself.
Due to the fact the techno, hard-house inclined Henrik “records his sets for future inspiration, as they often contain spontaneous improvisations and audience reactions that help shape his future musical direction”. It says here. Like a football manager showing his players a video of their latest match, except Schwarz is in reality a player-manager, Henrik takes a lot from this practice.
Starting with Sun Ra’s ‘Lullaby to Realville’, an artist it took Schwarz 15 years to get his head around, the album also includes an audacious reworking of James Brown’s classic ‘It’s A Man’s World’. Alongside a remix of Sami folk siren Mari Boine’s ‘Vuoi Vuoi’, a star in the making who should capitalize on the success of compatriots Adjagas. Trust Schwarz to keep things spicy.
