If it wasn’t for our championing of them, you probably wouldn’t have heard of the brothers Heise. To recap, Nelson, or Nelly as he now calls himself, and younger bro Bubba (no, they’re not rappers) used to play in garage rockers Munkey Juice. Before embarking on a name-change and more mature alt-country sound with The Heise Brothers.
So, what’s the story with The Hit and Mrs.? Well, Nelly’s relocated from Minnesota to Ohio, where he’s bought a house for himself and his pregnant wife. As he puts it, “I’ve got some things going on.”
And what’s more, the older Heise reckons Buried in the Backyard of My Heart “takes the best qualities of The Heise Bros and Munkey Juice and meshes them together.” He’s not wrong. Buried marries guts with guile to superlative effect. (3¾/5)
