Monday, 29 October 2007 Description:Celebrating their 10th birthday, Groove Armada have decided to gift their fans two presents. The first, this collection of their greatest hits; the second, GA10: From The Vaults 1997-2007, a double-CD rarities mix album. Yet there will be those who finger this first package suspiciously as three years ago, The Best of Groove Armada came out. Which means? Eight of the tracks which appeared on their Best Of resurface here. The likes of ‘I See You Baby’, ‘If Everybody Looked The Same’, and ‘At The River’. Augmented by newer material including ‘Song 4 Mutya’ and ‘Get Down’. Is it much cop? So, you’ve heard it all before. Get ready to listen it again. For this album justifies technology’s creation of the repeat function. How many good tracks? 13 out of 16. And the worst? Great as they are, ‘Song 4 Mutya’, ‘Get Down’, and ‘Love Sweet Sound’ are all too fresh in the memory. Seeing as they feature on Soundboy Rock. Which came out, ooh, all of six months ago. Biggest disappointment? That Cato and Findlay, with respect to the three tracks mentioned above, regressed to adolescent schoolboys. Not able to prolong the release. Instead, shooting their load all too prematurely. Verdict: Another essential listen from the hardy perennials. Although they’ll be pushing their luck, and the patience of their fanbase, if they release another compilation anytime soon. Columbia, take note. (3¾/5) |
