If you haven’t already had the pleasure (meets pain) of experiencing a Catalan collective who don’t so much dip their toe as plunge head first into the music of flamenco, hip hop, funk, reggae, and bhangra, this two-disc package of CD and DVD will give your peepers the jeepers, and the rest of your body a vigorous shake and twist. Recorded on the last date of the band’s 2006 tour at the Barcelona Teatre Musical, Ojos play a triumphant homecoming gig. Seemingly threatening to self-combust on stage, so fiery is their performance.
Wild on record, Ojos de Brujo are even more feral live. This is not a band who are going to replicate their disc on stage, meekly going through the motions. And as well as the 14 original tracks, the Catalans include a cover of ‘Get Up Stand Up’ and the drummer’s delight of ‘Interludio Tambla’.
An essential listen as it is a view, Techari Live bewitches and enchants in equal measure. So, you weren’t at the show? You won’t be so sure after these discs cast their spell.
