There are two Jeffs in Manchester-based singer/songwriter Doug Walker’s life: the muso’s musician of choice, Jeff Buckley, and the rather more prosaic Jeff Lynne of ELO fame/infamy. And so his debut single contains the sublime qualities of Buckley, whose Grace album was described as “almost impossibly beautiful”, with the terrace-singalong “la la la la la la” more associated with Lynne and his gang. It’s a win-win formula all right with Walker seemingly assured of both critical acclaim and commercial gain.
