Editors: Push Your Head Towards The Air (Kitchenware)
By Ben Saunders
Monday, 10 March 2008

The fourth single from last year’s number 1 album An End Has A Start is released to coincide with the band’s current tour dates. It’s one of the band’s slower songs, but gives Tom Smith an opportunity to really stretch his vocal chords over a fairly minimal backing (which makes the instrumental b-side an odd but interesting choice). It’s hard to find much fault with it but it’s not a song that really goes anywhere on its own. In sum, more of an album track than a single really. Kudos to the band both for their success and willingness to release something a bit different, avoiding some of the Joy Division/Interpol comparisons. One can’t help thinking that they’re scraping the barrel a bit though, as anyone who cares probably already has the album.

(3/5)
