As subtle as a kick in the balls, Reading’s Does It Offend You, Yeah? collaborated with acclaimed producer Rich Costey on this their debut album. Costey’s previously worked with the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Muse, and Franz Ferdinand. And this record takes the ire of RATM, mixes it with the overblown passion of Muse, before splicing it with Kapranos and co’s sheer danceability.
Hailing from Reading, it´s not entirely improbable then that these local heroes would be able to fill arenas such as the NME/Radio 1 stage, Carling stage, and Dance tent to spilling point. Let alone the main stage. Go ahead and book, festival organizers.
Yet one can try too hard. And DIOYY would appear to have done soon, as far as their name goes. But, from a musical point of view at least, they push as many buttons as they do boundaries.
