Look, Theo Gilmore doesn’t like spin. The title of the folk-rocker’s eighth album witnesses her sticking up two fingers to the likes of Alastair Campbell and his ilk. It represents an attempt, in her own words, “to get to the bone, to just tell it like it is.”
Theo Gilmore can often be found playing on the stereos of firm fans of hers Bruce Springsteen and Martha Wainwright. She’ll be joined there by Zutons frontman Dave McCabe, her US mirror version Erin McKeown, and the woman, the legend Joan Baez, all of whom who appear on Liejacker. Not that any of them manage to outshine the stellar talents of Gilmore herself, mind.
For our Thea was heralded by Uncut as “the best UK singer-songwriter of the last ten years, and then some”. And this latest album amply demonstrates the virtues of honest endeavour. Theo Gilmore doesn’t need spin, you see.
