'Just For You' is the first release from Lionel's forthcoming album also titled Just For You. Indeed. It's what his press release labels "an anthem of life and love" - which, if you can bear to imagine, sounds like the kind of nauseating semi-inspirational mush you hear in credit card adverts - the ones with the unbelievably good-looking and irritatingly happy families.
After over 30 years in show business you'd think Lionel would be able to pick better singles than this. Starting out as lead singer and co-founder of The Commodores in 1967, before moving onto solo success in the 80s and 90s, Lionel's career has been built on heartfelt passionate ballads and 'Hello', not this over-indulgent garbage.
Perhaps Lionel's too distracted by the antics of socialite daughter Nicole (of The Simple Life) to write the kind of songs that won him five Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Oscar, or perhaps he just needed a different producer to bring out the best of what could have been a pleasant track. (2/5)
