Kill Bill Vol 2 (WEA)
By Colin Stevens
Monday, 19 April 2004
Remember Kill Bill? Blood everywhere, oops, there goes my scalp’ and all that?  Awesome, wasn't it?  Well now The Bride (Uma Thurman) is back to complete her quest for revenge - to finish the killing spree she started in KB1. Oh yes, it's the sequel.  Which means that we have another original soundtrack album to wrap our battered and bloodied ears around.

The 16 tracks on this soundtrack comprise a bunch of spoken word snippets from the film, lots of atmospheric instrumentals, and even a handful of songs, would you believe. We have the obligatory 'two-well-known-artists-that-will-sell-the-CD' thrown into the melting pot in the form of Johnny Cash's 'A Satisfied Mind' and Wu Tang Clan's 'Black Mamba' which appears as a secret track (so shhh, I didn't tell you that).

And there are some other highlights. 'Can't Hardly Stand It' sees rockability legend Charlie Feathers showcasing a brilliant and unusual voice, sounding rather like a more country Elvis with Tourettes.  Ennio Morricone's music (which makes up a fifth of this CD) is interesting and clever stuff, his distinctive and unusual instrumentation creating some effective sound-scapes at times, but it doesn't half drag after a couple of listens.

I have no doubt that this album will be forgotten about quicker than Quentin Tarantino can talk about his childhood, but for the die-hard Kill Bill fan it still constitutes a 'bloody' good listen.
