The Darkness: Growing On Me (Must Destroy/Atlantic)
By Afsheen Shaikh

What on earth is that growing out of Justin Hawkin's midriff?  No doubt he's sporting one of his notoriously lavish costumes in the full picture - fuchsia pink, eh?  Nice...

Following on from the fantastic 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman', 'Growing On Me' is the latest single to precede the arrival of their debut album (promo copies are reaching £50 on Ebay) Permission To Land and hell, does it pack a good punch.  Imagine a concoction of Queen and Status Quo, drowned by Justin's crazy operatic shrills that spontaneously jump out when you least expect it.

Backed by two terrific b-sides, (the hilarious) 'How Dare You Call This Love?' and instrumental number 'Bareback', The Darkness are most certainly poised to thrust forward British rock, or as Justin would put it "turn a few heads and stomachs".  A respectable chart entry beckons and annihilation when the album is fired out on 7 July.
