Spiderman (Columbia)

Prepare to be spun around with this summer's blockbuster flick, Spiderman.  To mark the 40th anniversary of this superhero's humble beginnings as a comic book star, no expenses have been spared for his transition to the big screen especially with such a powerful and exciting soundtrack.

Where else will you find the eccentricity of Macy Gray meshed with the loopy nu-metal sounds of Alien Ant Farm, the new generation of mod rockers the Hives and the Strokes back-to-back with the grandads of rock Aerosmith and the bubblegum pop-punk of Sum 41 with New Jersey's songsmith Pete Yorn one on consistent album?

More surprises are in store.  Slipknot's frontman Corey Taylor contributes on 'Bother', a gorgeous rock ballad that's a million miles away from the metal thrash sounds of the maggot hunters, and Sum 41's 'What We're All About' is over three minutes of pure fun.  Black Lab's 'Learn To Crawl' is superb as is Theory Of A Dead Man's 'Invisible Man' (which sounds spookily like Nickelback).  Speaking of Nickelback, frontman Chad Kroeger with Saliva's Josey Scott, provides the powerful ballad 'Hero' as the theme song.

With 19 tracks in total, this is an eclectic rock rollercoaster full of emotions.  Devotees of their hero Peter Parker will welcome the original theme from Spider-Man, music lovers won't want to miss out on the unique collaboration of such prominent artists and movie buffs will treasure this memorabilia (especially the swanky 3-D cover).  Believe the hype - your music collection seriously needs this.
