"One legendary skateboarder. Twelve of the world's top athletes. Two raging punk rock bands. Six months of planning. Nine days of rehearsal. One jaw, broken in four places. One huge night in Las Vegas. Thousands of screaming fans." If that isn't hell of a tantalising premise for this DVD release, well I don't know what is.
Just as it says on the box, this DVD release focuses on one mammoth and hugely spectacular show with heady elements of skateboarding, Moto-X and BMX-ing all death-defyingly thrown together into the wind, along with caution. The stunts are probably some of the most exhilarating and dangerous that you might ever see, as boarders and bikers perilously cross each other's paths on the huge ramp/ track system that was specially designed for the night and was worth $1.2 million.
The stunts are so bewilderingly intense, Tony and team saw the need to prominently display the following disclaimer on the DVD packaging: “Boom Boom Huck Jam is not responsible for heart failure or soiled clothing”.
But oh yes it is, what with The Offspring and Social Distortion thrillingly providing the perfect accompaniment to the show, as bikes fly, blokes-on-boards somersault and anybody who sees the show gazes on in wonderment.
Perfectly choreographed in every last respect, the timing of the athletes (which include BMX-expect Mat Hoffman, Moto-X daredevil Carey Hart and 'boarding genius Bucky Lasek) in pulling of their stunts is obviously always crucial and not once in the show do you see anybody fall off their board or crazily crash their bike. From start to finish it is poetic motion, like a contemporarily adrenalised version of Swan Lake set to the coolest sights and sounds you might ever experience. (5/5)
