Blue: Bubblin’ (Innocent)
By Afsheen Shaikh
Friday, 18 June 2004
It is very unnerving to see Blue become more ‘youthful’ by the day, perhaps in a sneaky attempt to bridge the gap between them, their egos, their waistlines and the age group of their young fans.

Not so long ago, Duncan and Simon were older than me – now, I’m the senior one.  Still, it’s not of great importance when their fan base hasn’t been introduced to basic arithmetic in pre-schooling yet.

The awfully titled ‘Bubblin’ is the proud new single from Blue, written by the one who eats all the pies, Antony Costa.  “Bubblin’ is about the way girls make us boys feel – they get us really bubblin’!”  Funny, ‘cos I thought it was about Costa leaving something to simmer on the gas hob.

“You got the perfect body/ Love the way you're shaking that for me” – well, you get the idea.  It’s a bog standard romp of sexual and seductive innuendoes, and the video is a third rate take on hip-hop/R&B promos, with a bevvy of scantily clad girls writhing around the smug-faced boys of Blue – Costa looking uncomfortable in a shirt, tie and suit under the scorching sunshine, while square jawed Duncan winks and flicks his eyes at the camera.  Like the complete ponce that he is.  Barrel.  The.  Scraping.  Providing your IQ’s higher than Blue put together, you’ll be able to re-order those given words in no time.
