Monday, 17 June 2002 On paper this DVD looks pretty damn special! 90 minutes of documentary footage taken during Eminem’s 2001 European tour, eight big cities, live renditions of his biggest hits to date (featuring guest appearances from Marilyn Manson, Dido, Xzibit and Dr. Dre), and exclusive behind-the scenes footage.You have to agree – providing you’re a fan – that it all sounds quite tempting. In reality, however, it’s a bit of a let-down. We’re given very brief glimpses of what the crew experienced in each city, starting off in Hamburg, but more often than not that amounts to Shady, his backing group D-12 and the rest of the touring crew talking nonsense, or about drugs, or both. Much of it is filmed backstage, but all we really get to see is a lot of larking about and different shots of the same set being assembled in each location. The interview clips are hardly enlightening and much of what is asked and answered has been seen and heard before. Admittedly the live segments do make things better – ‘The Way I Am’, filmed in Hamburg with Marilyn Manson is great and Dido’s guest slot on ‘Stan’ during the final show in London is a memorable moment – but they seem to get lost and almost forgotten amid the rest of the footage of screaming fans and backstage shenanigans. ‘Purple Pills’ and ‘Forgot About Dre’ are included as ‘Special Features’, alongside a photo gallery, but even they’re not enough to make this DVD something that you’d really want to watch time and again. More attention to Eminem’s music would definitely have made this a better package, as ultimately this is all a little too dull. (2/5) Release Date: 17 June 2002
