Losing out to Hear'say in the first Popstars series was a blessing in disguise for Liberty X. The quintet, who debuted with 'Thinking It Over' exactly two years ago, have since clinched a number one single, a BRIT and Ivor Novello award plus a sell-out tour.
To mark their anniversary and whet appetites before their impending new album Being Somebody is dropped on 3 November, a DVD featuring live concert footage, backstage gossip and promo videos have been squeezed together, and it's tighter than the girls' patent cat-suits.
A 70 minute concert filmed at Cardiff International Arena in March 2003 is the main focal point, with a further 45 minutes of behind-the-scene and on-the-road footage included in the extra features of the DVD. Straight from the horse's mouth, Kevin, Tony, Michelle, Jessica and Kelli personally guide you through their new-found status as one of the UK's biggest pop acts.
As a video, there are no exciting revelations here other than the girls' sexy costumes. It's no different to other music videos especially with it being harmless, friendly pop easily accessible to the younger fans. However, for what it's worth as a package, there's a lot on offer, and I don't mean the girls' cleavages.
The group's six videos are the highlights, namely 'Just A Little', 'Got To Have Your Love' and (the collaboration with Richard X) 'Being Nobody'. Along with the rest of the content, it's all been cleverly integrated into the DVD's impressive graphics and is dead easy to navigate. Not quite bursting with x-appeal, just very considerately put together. (3½/5)
