Monday, 24 November 2003 Tango In The Night marks a very difficult period in the lengthy career of AOR legends Fleetwood Mac. For those people who know the band’s history well, difficult periods were quite a regular occurrence, but at the time that this particular concert took place, things were slightly worse, due mainly to frontman and key songwriter Lindsey Buckingham having just jumped ship.Being largely responsible for holding the band together, Lindsey’s departure from the band was a noted one, not only for the remaining members, but the fans too. Following the release of their 1987 album of the same name, and despite Buckingham’s departure, the band felt it necessary to take to the road to promote their new release. Buckingham’s absence from the band was so significant that his shoes were filled by not one, but two guitarists. The shows went ahead and the band got through them, but from the evidence of this wonderful recording, it’s clear to see that they weren’t entirely happy and the void on stage, left by Buckingham’s absence, makes for great viewing. The band still great without him as they perform hit after hit including ‘Dreams’, ‘Tango In The Night’, ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Songbird’ and ‘Everywhere’, but it’s clear the band miss the presence of their frontman and Nick’s even makes reference to his departure during the epic track ‘The Chain’. The live footage has been interlaced with backstage recordings, which makes this DVD even more viewable and the only black mark it receives is due to its lack of bonus material. For all Fleetwood Mac enthusiasts, however, an essential purchase. (4½/5) Release Date: 24 November 2003
