Monday, 12 November 2001 The supremacy of Michael Jackson shows no signs of faltering especially as he's survived 30 years of being in the spotlight, despite the backlash on Invincible. And when he's undergone numerous changes in his life (not just to his face), there's no doubt that he's helped shape pop music and has earned his place in history. So for the first time on DVD, his greatest videos are now available in digital quality from his first single 'Rock With You' (from Off The Wall) to his controversial interpretation of racism and repression in 'Black Or White'.And it's a rather neat package too with the full 18 minute version of 'Bad' (featuring the never-seen-before short film), the rarely seen version of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' (at just under 10 minutes in duration), the ground-breaking 'Thriller' and the likes of Iman (Mrs David Bowie), Eddie Murphy and Magic Johnson popping up in the Egyptian fantasy of 'Remember The Time' ,as well as other memorable hits like 'Billie Jean', 'Beat It' and more. Watching such lengthy videos, you can't help think this man does go on. Aware that Jacko is trying to prove himself as a serious director/artist/producer, the constant repetition is tedious and sometimes harms the actual video. Instinctively, 'Black Or White' is one of Jackson's best videos, using sharp special effects and keeping the flow and the message of the song going, but it's ruined by the pointless ending in which Jacko expresses his anguish behind the persecution he has had to endure all his life. For about three minutes, we have to watch him smash windows and cars with racist taglines like the swastika symbol, "Nigger go home!" and "KKK rules!" (for the Ku Klux Klan). And then there is the constant crotch-grabbing and rubbing of his genitals. All in the same video. And he expects us to take him seriously? Release Date: 12 November 2001
