Stocking Up For Bird Seeds
By Afsheen Shaikh
Monday, 21 June 2004

Hola!  Do you like my sombrero?  I thought you’d like to see proof of its existence, and yes, it's another one to add to my colossal collection of headgear.  It’s genuine too, and so big.  As you can see.  I think I should unveil a different hat each week, purely for egotistical reasons.

I trust you had a good weekend.  Mine was how you would expect it to be – chaotic and some may even say, melodramatic but absolutely true.  I won’t go into why I went to a builder’s merchant on Saturday morning to pick up a bag of dried kiln sand and a huge tank of brickwork sealant (which I incidentally dropped on my foot), but I will tell you that I left buying a father’s day present till that day.  Luckily, it was quick and pain-free, and I walked away with a bottle of aftershave (that’s ‘cologne’ to our American folk) for my pops.  I paid of course – you didn’t think I literally walked away with it, did you?

What wasn’t a breeze was trying to buy some bird seeds for my bird feeder.  I searched in two branches of Woolies, one branch of Poundstretcher (yes, very chavvy) and a supermarket before accepting defeat.  The only thing in stock were peanuts, which is no good as the bloody squirrels nick them all when I put them in the feeder, so I was rather miffed at coming back empty handed on that front.  As a result, the fat pigeon who eats all the bird food decided to spend its weekend elsewhere instead of my garden.  I suggest it goes on a diet.  Traitor.

I’ve run out of Lucozade, by the way.  My local Woolies won’t pull their finger out in re-stocking the original flavour and I’m refusing to pay the extortionate prices the neighbouring cornershops and news agents sell theirs for.  Up to 15 pence more.  Outrageous!

I’d like to tell you what everyone else from uk-fusion have been up to but seeing as I’ve yet to receive details from them to write their profile pages as well as images to illustrate their beautiful visages, you’ll have to put up with my ramblings.  It's no fun when you don't know who they are and what they look like.  To those concerned, pull your fingers out.

Enjoy what content is on offer to read this week.  Especially ‘Bubblin’.  I’m going for a lie-down.  Adios, amigos!
