According to the intro, this is a ‘jazzy fizzle produc-shizzle’ featuring ‘snoopy d o double gizzle’ which translates as – this track features Snoop Dogg who’ll more than likely be rapping lots of words containing the letter ‘zee’.According to me though, or the press release I read, this is the first single off the Angie’s recently released third album, Stone Love. I prefer to think of it as a ‘produc-shizzle’ although when I say that out loud I sound more like a gimp than a pimp.
Bouncing along on a retro 70s soul/funk beat, the vocals and rapping give us a two-way love song with Snoop’s delivery the perfect hip-hop foil to Angie’s retro-funk/soul vocals. There’s a slight lyrical theft from the Joyce Sims hit ‘Come Into My Life’ but it’s a minor offence really and when you have something this retro in styling it doesn’t seem out of place.
Angie’s not massively familiar with the top ten, unless she’s guesting on a Blue single or providing backing vocals for Joss Stone. This single is unlikely to change that which is a shame, but not much of a shame because sometimes when you find the good stuff you want to share it, other times you want to keep it to yourself. Of course it’s all a bit derivative, but more importantly it’s all good. (4/5)
