Firstly I wish more bands would play venues that had ‘2 for 1 drinks’ promotions. Tonight's venue, Colour tucked away down a side street off Camden High Road does exactly this. Bargain!
On the bill tonight are Rises, a five piece from Burnley, who having fled Lancashire for the bright lights of the big city have found themselves living the rock'n' roll lifestyle in a house in Hommerton. Well, hookers and drug addicts are rock’n’roll, aren't they? So what if they just happen to be on the street outside the band’s house?
Rises have a small, but growing fan base who are out in full force tonight, filling the dark Camden basement and leaving little room for the after work drinkers and Camden trendies. The material in tonight's set is from their upcoming album Without Love We're All Just Machines, which is due out in the summer.
Rises fans are, like the band themselves, a very chilled out and mellow bunch. The band are so chilled out that they're not particularly bothered they haven't rehearsed and only worked out the set list an hour after arriving at the venue for tonight's gig. But in the end neither matters as they pull off a flawless set with their pretty but mournful tracks leaving the audience gasping for more while I’m anxious to know when they’ll next be playing in town.
