Duran Duran @ Wembley Arena, London
By Earth Girl

Despite being one of the biggest pop bands of the 80s I have come to the startling realisation that Duran Duran are actually a rock band.  OK, so it's pop rock, but that doesn't disguise the fact that unlike D12 these guys play their own instruments.

Kicking things off with one of their newer songs may not have been such a great way to start the night, but things soon get going with the old classics which, let's face it, is what most of the audience are here for.   While only the hardcore fans are up on their feet, dancing during the new songs and album tracks, the rest of the punters show polite appreciation while waiting for the crowd pleasers.

For an old fella Simon Le Bon certainly can move.  Kitted out in a white jacket, Simon changes halfway through to a shiny black one, while making the most of the extended stage.  He struts, bounces, pounces, leaps, runs and dances his way along every inch of the stage, pausing to pose at each end in front of the adoring fans.

It's hard to believe that after their hey day so many are still excited about Duran Duran.  The irony of having played a sell-out tour is they still remain unsigned though no one - least of all the band - seemed fazed by this fact tonight.
